Día 21

Buenas tardes, Andy,

This is day 21 and I'd like to be back to present indicative from a more practical perspective.

The present indicative or el presente/el presente de indicativo is similar to the simple present tense in English grammar. We use this to tense to speak about actions in the present and near future. It describes routine or repeated actions as well as permanent situations.

Ejemplo:

Zeichnung
Este es Manolo. Cada martes juega al fútbol. Juega al fútbol desde hace cinco años.
El próximo domingo su equipo participa en un campeonato.

(This is Manolo. He has been playing football every Tuesday for five years. Next Sunday, his team is taking part in a tournament)

Most of the times, as mentioned earlier, its use is similar as the use of simple present in English. However, as you must have noted in the example, we'd use present indicative for situations in which present perfect (either simple or continuous) or present continous are used in English.

I've found two illustrative videos talking about daily routines which might help us today.

Here you are the first video (watch it until minute 2:00)

Watch it as many times as you want and answer these questions:

1st. Can you enumerate five things this person does every day?
2nd. In Spanish, what time does he wake up?
3rd. What's the difference between "me despierto" and "me levanto"?
4th. What does he do at night after dinner? (Try to answer it in Spanish)

Here you are the second video:

Watch it as many times as you want and answer these questions:

1st. What do you think he means by "cada día" (second 0:11)?
2nd.What does he do after waking up?
3rd. Where does he do it (referring to what he does after waking up? (Try tu answer this in Spanish)
4th. Which words does he use to mean "after that", "later"?
5th. Who does he have breakfast with? (Try to answer this in Spanish)
6th. Where does it work at? (Try to answer this in Spanish)
7th. How long does it work every day? (Try to answer this in Spanish)
8th. What do he and his girlfriend do after dinner?
9th. Which days does he follow a different routine?

I hope you have enjoyed these two videos, which one did you find easier to follow?

Lastly, if you feel like, try to write and/or record a few sentences talking about your routine (4-5).

¡Ánimo!
