Día 4

¡Buenas noches, guapo!

It was my idea to suggest an activity with the song "Mucho mejor" de los Rodríguez. It's the one I (sort of) sang a bit the other day during the call, but I found we could take better advantage of it when you become better at this :-) (Anyway, I felt like sharing the song with you, so I'll send it to you now)

So... what can we work today at? What about numbers and months? I find them really useful! For instance, it could help you to talk about special dates (como el dos de abril/as April second).

Here's Andy's task for today!

- Learn and practice numbers from 1 to 30 in Spanish. You can find both the spelling and the pronunciation in the following link
https://www.lexisrex.com/Espa%C3%B1ol-N%C3%BAmeros/1-30

- Learn and practice the names for the months in Spanish (we don't use capital letters for them, as distinct to English). This video might help for the months but watch out! What he mentions around minute 2:23 is for South American Spanish, for Spanish from Spain you'd better follow my indications after the video :-)

Here you can find an example to see the pattern to write a specific date in Spanish:

"el (article/the) dieciséis (day of the month/sixteen) de (of) agosto (the month/August)"

- Would you dare to write these dates in Spanish?

April 2nd

April 20th

June 7th

July 13th

January 19th

November 1st

You can think in some more dates if you feel like and keep practicing! Which numbers/months do you find more challenging?

So, that's all for today! Numbers are not easy (As I see it, specially the ones between 11 and 19) so, I wouldn't worry if getting the right spelling took you a bit of practice.

Espero que disfrutes el reto y que tengas un buen día :-)

Día 3

¡Buenas noches!

Were you thinking there would be no challenge for today? Wrong!

I had such a busy day and for the last few hours my mind has been entirely devoted to a riddle, but here it's your third day challenge!

This is a mixed challenge in wich you might get familiar with both use of gender in Spanish and Spanish articles.

So, first of all, I'd recommend you to watch the following video:

 And now:
- What's the difference between "la" and "una"?
- Which general rule (and at least another secondary rule) could you use to identify gender in Spanish nouns?
- Clic on the next links and complete the activities

 https://www.learnspanishfeelgood.com/articles-un-una-unas-unos1.html

 https://www.learnspanishfeelgood.com/spanish-articles-el-la-los-las2.html

How many of them could you do? Try as many times as you feel like, the website can also give you the solution if you want to. Finally, take note of some words of these exercises you'd like to learn now. Personally, I like "una voz" (a voice), it might be helpful to understand, for instance, when someone tells you "Tu voz es muy sexy cuando pides una Guinness"

¡Vamos!

Día 2

¡Buenos días!

¿Qué tal?

Today, I'm bringing to you a new and (hopefully) instructive challenge.

A beautiful girl approaches you and stand nearby clearly waiting for you to tackle her. Andy does it but... she's Spanish and don't know a word in English! :-( Don't worry, not everything is lost yet!

Your little challenge for today consists of:

- Watching this video without subtitles, can you guess what they are talking about?

- Watching again with English subtitles and try to complete the dialogue

Man: _______
Woman: _______
Man: ¿Qué ____?
Woman: ____ ¿y tú?
Man: ____ bien
Man: ¿______ te llamas?
Woman: Patricia
Man: __  ___ Alejandro
Woman: _______, Alejandro
Man: ¿De _____ _____?
Woman: De Madrid. ¿Y __?
Man: ____ de Pamplona
Woman 2: ¡Patricia!
Woman: ¡Ey, Daniela! ¿____ estás?
Woman 2: ___ ¿y tú?
Woman: ___ también
Woman 2: Y... ¿__ ____?
Man: ___, yo ___ Alejandro
Woman 2: Yo ___ Daniela, mucho ____
Man: ¿____ de Uruguay?
Woman 2: No, no, no, ___ de Argentina
Man: De Argentina. ¿De qué ciudad?
Woman 2: __ Mendoza. ¿Y tú, de _____ ____¿
Man: ___ de Pamplona

- Finally, answer the following questions:

   1. What would Andy talk about when meeting a non too talkative girl? (Well, not a clear Learning Spanish-Purpose in this question, I was just curious)
   2. How many ways of saying "How are you?" could you find in the video? Give a detailed answer including the sentence/sentences
   3. How many ways of saying "Nice to meet you" could you find in the video? Give a detailed answer including the sentence/sentences

SUPER TASK ACTIVITY*
If you feel like, prepare the monologue using your details (name, orign), call me later and we can practice it :-). An alternative is recording it by your own and sending it to me.

¡Espero que vaya genial!

Día 1

¡Hola, guapo!

You may be familiar with the idea of a 30-day challenge: challenge yourself to do something consistently for 30 days, and see how it goes. Matt Cutts already proposed this in his TED talk "Try something new for 30 days".

Don't you think the time has come to challenge Andy with Spanish? Would you commit to checking this blog every day and attempting a new activity? Would you share your progress?

But, what do these activities consist in?
...

Well, you'll have to stay and find out for yourself. I've heard through the grapevine that today you have been working with the verb "ser" (to be). Did you know that in Spanish there are two verbs meaning to be?

To overcome this first challenge, I invite you...

- to watch this video
- to explain the difference between ser and estar
- to create five different sentences in Spanish using those verbs (I'd recommend you to do it with different subjects :-))

Looking forward to seeing you in the comments!

So... if you're ready to stick to it for 30 days (or more?), stay tuned!

Día 30

¡Hola guapo! ¿Cómo vas? I do hope one day Andy finds this last challenge after having gone through all the rest! :-) I thought it could...
